Paul, president of the APPILD association, speaks about the situation in Burkina Faso. He explains to us how his association is taking an active part in the fight against the pandemic but also how development projects are being impacted.
Thank you for thinking of us in these difficult times the world is going through. It is true that our country is not spared, but we assure you that we and our loved ones are doing well; we hope the same with you.
Regarding COVID 19 in our country, the situation is as follows according to data from the Ministry of Health on April 05, 2020:
total of 345 cases have been confirmed, including 119 women and 226 men with 90 recoveries and 17 deaths. Covid-19 has been evolving rapidly in Burkina Faso since the first cases were recorded last 9 March. Several people who have had contact with patients, placed in quarantine, have tested negative at the end of the required 14 days of confinement.
In spite of the above data, we are always serene and follow with rigour the measures taken by the government towards the population. These are among others :
- The closure of markets, of maquis (restaurants), places of worship;
- Travels are stopped (closing of land and air borders);
- The suspension of event organizations (weddings, funerals...) that could spread the disease;
- Greetings with handshakes are discouraged.
- Awarness-raising with the use of soap, gels, wearing a nose mask etc.
COVID-19 is a real slower of global development. Indeed, it has paralyzed all activities that promote human life. Nothing is currently moving the way we want it to. But with the measures taken by the state, we hope it will end. Our concern is that we do not know when it will end so that working life can resume normally.
APPILD complies with the hygiene rules set by the government. But in particular we have set up a committee to support the actions of sensitization of the population in order to contribute to the fight against this pandemic. In addition, we have modestly mobilized a fund to help the population with the purchase of washbasins, soap, gels, and nose masks.”
